We love the use of the boulders in the border walls of this gem of a playground in San Diego's Mission Bay Park. Boulders were strategically placed so that most have a flat surface on top for kids to climb on or parents to rest on. Boulders have a geotextile fabric placed behind them to keep the soil from the raised planters from seeping through the joints and spoiling the playing surface that has been poured directly up the base of the boulders.
